(Dec 2020) Review of Scientific Instruments Publication

Scintillator detector characterization for laser-driven proton beam imaging is published in Review of Scientific Instruments. Our team worked with PI Dr. Mario Manuel from General Atomics on his LaserNetUS experiment to characterize various plastic scintillators for proton beam detection and imaging using the Tcubed laser at the University of Michigan. This is Tang’s first, first-author publication – congratulations Tang!

(Nov 2020) 62nd APS DPP, virtual!

Paul, Brandon, Tang and Brendan are presenting their work at the American Physical Society Division of Plasma Physics Annual Meeting, 2020. This year the DPP is running a virtual format due to COVID travel restrictions.

(Oct 2020) Review of Scientific Instruments Publication

Enhanced spatial resolution of Eljen-204 plastic scintillators for use in rep-rated proton diagnostics is published in Review of Scientific Instruments. Our team worked with PI Dr. Mario Manuel from General Atomics on his LaserNetUS experiment to characterize pixelated plastic scintillators for proton beam detection and imaging using the Tcubed laser at the University of Michigan.

(Sept 2020) Physical Review Letters Publication

Magnetic Signatures of Radiation-Driven Double Ablation Fronts is published in Physical Review Letters. Nice work from Paul T Campbell’s PhD thesis!

(July and August 2020) Shot days at OMEGA EP

We took another two shot days on OMEGA EP at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) at the University of Rochester, NY. One campaign is studying self-generated magnetic fields in laser-plasma interactions and the other is to investigate direct laser acceleration of electrons. Because of the travel restrictions we interacted with the LLE team virtually!

(Mar 2020) Physical Review E Publication

Production of relativistic electrons at subrelativistic laser intensities is published in Physical Review E.

(Feb 2020) The 2020 Stewardship Science Academic Programs (SSAP) Symposium

Prof. Willingale and graduate students Brandon Russell and Hongmei Tang attend the SSAP 2020 in Washington, DC.
